Dr. Gerson is a surgeon whose career at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago spanned 26 years, caring for children of all ages, including newborns. She cared for healthy children as well as critically ill and special needs children. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is on the faculty of Northwestern University.  She recently earned a Master of Arts in Bioethics from Loyola University Chicago's Neiswanger Institute, and is continuing toward a doctorate.
 
She is married to Rabbi Emeritus Gary S Gerson of Oak Park Temple and has two daughters. Rabbi Jordie Gerson is the Rabbi and Assistant Director of the University of Vermont Hillel and Jessica Gerson is a social worker in New Orleans.
